Can you grasp how much you are loved by the plants and the trees?
I have been visiting my parents, rendezvousing in my childhood home. When they built this house, a major consideration was how to keep as many trees as possible, specifically the divine Magnolia that could have mindlessly been engulfed by the footprint of the house. We have always adored this tree and keeping her was a nonnegotiable.
She is the Grandmother of this land, soaring more than fifty feet towards blue sky and finding increasing comfort in the width of her wing span, almost tickling the house this year. Her physical presence is absolutely grandiose, but it is her Spirit that makes it impossible to walk past her without notice.
I spent quiet time with her. I am always learning, finding within myself the remembering of how to have a deeper and deeper relationship with the plants and trees.
Every human is in relationship with the Plants and Trees in every moment whether one chooses to be conscious of this or not.
Magnolia shared with me how she keeps watch over my parents, continuously helping to support their well-being.
I wonder… do my parents realize that Magnolia does this for them? Are they able to consciously acknowledge that a tree can (and is) always looking out for them, and working in ways so complex and so intertwined that humans can never fathom?
My parents would most likely tell you they can’t talk to the trees. I laugh at this irony. In the many, many years that my parents have been the stewards of this land, they have loved and talked to the trees– in their own way.
I go outside and have an in-depth conversation with Magnolia, kiss her trunk, rub my cheek against her leaves…. because this is my heart and my relationship with the plants and trees.
My parents don’t speak to the trees like this, but they appreciate them and bask in their presence. Each of us has our own unique style and gift of communication and sharing. What matters most? What is the common denominator? LOVE!
My point: love the plants and trees however that looks for you. All relationships must start somewhere and you never know where it will take you. No way is better than another. Love is love is love. The plants and trees love you beyond your wildest imagination. Receive it fully, reflect it back to them and outward to the world, and then witness what unfolds…..

I met an antelope
In the woods
Walking a fence line
So wanting to be on the other side
I pause, watching…
Big open land just opposite
‘Why don’t you run free– that way?’
How many times must we repeat our self to finally grasp that nothing other than our own heart will ever satiate the eternal looking for…?
How much courage does it take to recognize the illusion that the ‘outside’ is only fluff at best?
How much extraordinary trust in one’s self does it take to chose the path less traveled and live from the inside, out?
